The Next group identified and discussed the role that technology plays in their everyday lives. Students looked at a timeline of Apple product design, new technology that is controlled by the touch of an app on our smart devices-Nest, and the trailer for The Light Bulb Conspiracy and the roles that we play in a consumer society with ephemeral objects. Students were asked to bring in gadgets that were obsolete, broken, or found and began to disassemble these objects to create 3-D sculptures.
Students began class by taking their collaborative silk screens that they had prepared last week and printed the image. Students transferred their personal symbol drawings to fabric and prepped their screens with modge podge glue focusing on positive and negative space.
