The Fall 2016 Session of City Art Lab has begun! We are so excited to welcome over 35 NYC high school students into our classroom last Wednesday for our first launch of City Art Lab during a fall semester. This semester, our graduate student teaching artists will be leading teens through discussions, visual inquiries, and exploratory art making in various media and techniques. Students will explore themes of Race and What is Next-What is not Next?
Teens and grad students started off the first session with some fun icebreaker activities-a snowball fight and human bingo. The Next group watched an animation by the artist Blu for their theme of Next. The class proceeded to make collaborative aprons. Why aprons? Next group says, “Every Wednesday we are entering into a lab. Like scientists, we are going to investigate some of the themes written in this whiteboard using art materials to inquiry.” The Race group led students through a word-inspired collaborative collage, passing the collage 3 places to the right. A fun-filled session and so many more to come!
