Teaching Art Today: #BlackLivesMatter Part Two

IMG_7241Two snowstorms later and the room was suddenly filled again. Again, we needed more chairs.

On February 9, 2015, the second Teaching Art Today: #BlackLivesMatter Teach In drew over 40 teaching artists and educators from across NYC into deep conversation about how we can teach art to dismantle racism. Building on conversations started at our December 8th event, we quickly broke into groups to develop lesson plans and ideas. Inspired by images from Smack Mellon’s current Respond exhibition and our list of focus questions, each group generated and shared one of the art lesson plans, activities, or prompts below.

We closed the session with hunger for more, so stay tuned for information about Part Three when we plan to test drive some of these lessons and make some art together. Follow @CCNYArtEd on Facebook to make sure you get the invite.
