We will share our stories of resistance and memories of victory, as we bring to life our dreams of a world of justice, dignity, and democracy. MONDAY, NOVEMBER 7TH AT 7 P.M. JULIA DE BURGOS LATINO CULTURAL CENTER 1680 LEXINGTON AVE. BETWEEN 105TH & 106TH (6 TRAIN TO 103RD ST.) Movement for Justice in El Barrio is an immigrant- and people of color-led, grassroots community organization that fights for dignity and against neoliberal displacement from East Harlem to Chiapas and beyond. For seven years, Movement has built a 700-member-strong, local movement for dignified housing and justice that has taken on and defeated greedy slumlords, corrupt politicians, and multi-national corporations. Committed to the principles of autonomy and self-determination, Movement practices participatory democracy and horizontal decision-making in its organizing campaigns, and as part of Zapatista-initiated The Other Campaign, fights to build true community power and liberation from below and to the left.
